Way back in November, OnePlus confirmed that it would be upgrading its most recent flagship, the OnePlus 2, to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. That eventually led to soak tests for some users out in the wild, but the majority of owners have been waiting quite a bit of time to get Marshmallow on their handset.
The wait is finally over. OnePlus has announced that it's begun the global rollout for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow for the OnePlus 2. The upgrade is part of the OxygenOS 3.0.2 update. OnePlus says that the update will be rolled out in waves, so not every handset will see the upgrade option right away, but they also said that they plan on finishing the rollout within 48 hours.
There are a few noteworthy additions in the update. That includes faster fingerprint reader recognition and performance as well as an updated camera app user interface. The camera has gained some autofocus optimization, too.
Here's the full changelog:
- Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow upgrade
- Enhanced Doze mode for better battery life
- System wide performance improvements
- Improved fingerprint sensor performance and recognition
- New OnePlus Camera UI and AF optimization
- MaxxAudio and Tuner have been removed. We have integrated with Dirac HD Sound technology for the speaker so you get a great experience without the knobs and dials
- Shelf UX has been improved. You can now long press to edit a board
- You can now lock apps in recents so they won't be cleared away. We've also added clear process in addition to clear-all for those of you who want a better control of background processes
- Network operator selection will now stick to your choice so you don't accidentally roam onto unintended networks
- Swiftkey update to 6.3.3
It's been a somewhat long wait for OnePlus 2 owners, but at least the software is finally rolling out. Have you upgraded yet?
