LG G6 will run LG UX 6.0 with special features for the 18:9 display

The LG G6 will have a display with an 18:9 aspect ratio that'll be taller than the 16:9 screens which are on most other handsets. And today LG teased some of the special software features that it's cooked up for its tall display.

LG UX 6.0 will come preloaded on the LG G6 and will include a new camera UX with features like Square Camera, which will split the G6's screen into two 1:1 squares. You can then use one square to take a photo in the aspect ratio for social networks like Instagram, then review the photo on the other half of your display.

Other features of LG UX 6.0 include Food Mode for capturing photos of your food, a GIF creator that can make GIFs using between 2 and 100 pictures in a loop, multi-tasking for running two apps side-by-side, and special split views for select apps when the G6 is in horizontal mode. For example, the calendar app will show you a calendar on one half of the screen and your detailed schedule on the other half.

LG also touts that the G6's 18:9 FullVision screen will let you read more of a webpage or book and be more immersive for videos and games. And if you run into 16:9 content, LG UX 6.0 includes a feature that'll let you easily view it on the G6's 18:9 screen.

One other detail worth noting about today's announcement is that the screenshot that LG shared has rounded corners, which adds support to the rumors that the G6's display will have rounded corners.

The LG G6 will make its official debut on February 26.
