Motorola’s ‘Shamu’ or Nexus 6 shown off in mock-up as more details come to light

Since late July, Motorola's "Shamu" handset has been the center of plenty of rumors regarding an upcoming Nexus handset, and now a new report has surfaced that claims to not only corroborate rumors, but even add a bit of new information to the mix.

According to a report published on Wednesday, September 24, by 9to5Google, Motorola's "Shamu" device, which could land on the market later this year as either the Nexus 6 or Nexus X, is indeed still coming. And, as many rumors have suggested in the past, it is indeed going to look like an oversized new Moto X. At least, if a mock-up published along with the report is any indication.

According to a source speaking with 9to5Google, some of the information that has been rumored in the past, including information tied to a GFXBench report in early August, is now being corroborated. That includes a device with a display that measures in at 5.9-inches and has a resolution of 2560 x 1440. On top of that — or, under the hood, specifically — there's a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset clocked at 2.6GHz. The device will reportedly launch with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage and a battery measured in at 3200mAh.

The camera on the back, while oft-rumored to boast a 12-megapixel shooter, will apparently actually be a 13-megapixel camera. The camera on the front will be a 2-megapixel shooter, exactly like the one you'd find on a new Moto X.

As noted in the original report, though, while the mock-up does indeed look like a gargantuan new Moto X, there are some other subtle differences, like the slight shifting of the volume rocker.

As far as software goes, the device will launch with Android L, and it will be a vanilla effort. Unlike the Moto X lineup, where Motorola has their own apps available out of the box, that won't be the case for the Nexus handset. It will remain a Nexus-branded, stock Android experience.

As far as a launch date goes, it sounds like Google is still planning to announce the handset in October and launch it sometime in November.
