Android M developer preview 2 has launched today, and with it comes a new feature that should make those who cringe at the site of a status bar filled with icons jump for joy.

Android's new System UI Tuner allows Android users to choose which icons are displayed in the status bar. Want nothing but the time and battery? Not a problem anymore. As useful as things like WiFi and cellular connection icons are, we have to admit, removing all that does look mighty nice. Also added in System UI Tuner is the ability to have a handy battery percentage number in the battery icon.
We'll be keeping our eyes out for more changes in Android M preview 2 as the web digs in.
