A government push to bring coverage to near and/or total regional dead zones will see Telstra set up 66 mobile base stations by June 2016.
The first round of this two-stage rollout is expected to be completed by July 2016, with locations for the second phase rollout to be divulged by the end of the year. Telstra will take on a majority of the responsibility, contributing $165 million towards a total 429 3G/4G mobile base stations in all six states.
In addition to the $165 million Telstra is putting on the table, the Federal Government is investing $94.8 million, while tens of millions of dollars have been generated from State and Local Governments nationwide.
