You might not know this but the Facebook-owned Oculus, co-created the Samsung Gear VR headset – as a more affordable VR solution. Which is why today's news story shouldn't come as a big surprise – Facebook has just announced it preparing to launch its own 360-degree video app for the Samsung Gear VR. But the app won't be a full VR clone of the social network. Instead it focuses on displaying 360-degree photos and videos from your feed/timeline. The app also allows users to view saved content and explore a feed that gestures the most popular 360 degree content available on Facebook. According to Facebook, 360-degree content is one the rise with more than 25 million 360 photos and one million 360-degree video having been posted on Facebook to date. With the new Gear VR app, Facebook is trying to deliver 360-degree content to the largest possible audience. Remember that in order to use the Gear VR you will need to have a compatible phone at your disposal.
