Well it looks like 2016 will be the year that Nokia begins its quest to reascend the mobile tech mountain top. According to a couple of sources who spoke with Re/Code, Nokia already has plans in place to return to the smartphone market as soon as its agreement with Microsoft not to make phones comes to an end at the end of the year. However, the sources indicated that Nokia will not be engaging the market directly. Rather, they will design devices and then license them to partners who will be responsible for manufacturing and distribution. This is basically what Nokia has been doing with their first Android tablet, the N1, thus far. Speaking of Android, chances are very very high that this will be the OS of choice as Nokia moves forward.
Seems to me like a pretty smart move as Nokia does need to be a little cautious as they return to the market. They lost a lot in the Microsoft / Windows Phone debacle but they still have a lot of good talent on board and a plethora of patents to back them up. Even though this is a new Nokia, I'm excited to see what type of stuff they churn out in the coming years.
