Samsung Galaxy Note 8 leak gives us a clear look at the upcoming flagship

Samsung is holding an event on August 23rd, and it's likely that that's where we'll get to meet the Galaxy Note 8. As with most other flagship smartphones, though, images of the Note 8 are leaking out ahead of its official reveal.

A new image of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has been posted by reliable leakster Evan Blass. The render shows off the front of the Note 8, which looks like a boxier Galaxy S8. There's the Infinity Display with curved edges and minimal bezel, and the lack of a physical home button suggests that the Note 8 will have on-screen navigation buttons like its S8 sibling.

While this leak doesn't show us the back of the Note 8, a previous report suggested that it'll be the first Samsung phone with a dual rear camera setup. Also rumored to be included is a rear fingerprint reader located to the right of those cameras, 6GB of RAM, an Exynos 8895 or Snapdragon 835 processor (will vary between markets), and a 6.3-inch 18.5:9 Super AMOLED display.

Nothing is official until Samsung says it is, but the Note 8 shown in this leak looks just about what you'd expect a Note 8 to look like. It combines the boxier look of recent Note phones with the new design found on the Galaxy S8 to give us a device that looks pretty sharp. Now we just have to wait a few weeks to handle the thing for ourselves.

Google Voice 5.3 update brings multi-select for messages [APK Download]

Google just pushed a minor revision to the Google Voice app for Android, bringing it up to v5.3. Nothing huge appears to have been changed, but there is one small but useful new feature. Now long-pressing on a message brings up an option for multi-selection, rather than just a menu for simple actions pertaining to a single message. So the next time you need to mass-delete messages sent to your Google Voice account, it won't be quite such a tedious affair.

We did a quick look inside the APK as well, and so far this appears to be the only significant difference in v5.3.

Samsung Galaxy S8 now gaining Google Daydream VR support

Google's Daydream VR platform is now available to many more people.

Google says that Daydream VR support is now rolling out to the Galaxy S8 and S8+. With it, GS8 and GS8+ users can install the Daydream app from the Play Store and begin experiencing all of the games and apps that Daydream VR has to offer.

We've known that Daydream VR support was coming to the Galaxy S8 for a while now, but it's still exciting to see it finally rolling out. Now Google's VR platform will be available to many more users, and perhaps that'll bring some exciting new content with it. Meanwhile, Galaxy S8 users now have access to another virtual reality option in addition to Samsung's Gear VR platform.

The timing of this Daydream VR update for the Galaxy S8 is good, too, because there's currently a sale on Google Daydream View VR headsets. So if you've got a GS8 but no Daydream headset, give these deals a look.

Daydream VR support is rolling out to the Galaxy S8 and S8+

When the Galaxy S8 was initially released, it lacked support for Google's Daydream VR platform. But at Google I/O, the company confirmed that the phone would receive an update "over the summer" that added Daydream support. Then T-Mobile said the update was coming, followed by Verizon.

Now it looks like it's finally happening. The Google VR G+ account announced that "the Daydream-ready update is rolling out now" to both the S8 and S8+.

YouTube v12.29 includes hints about location-specific search [APK Teardown]

youtube

YouTube is a fantastic tool for learning about the world around us, but sometimes it's easy to forget that there are great things happening in our own backyard. A teardown of the latest update suggests we might soon have the option to add geography to our search criteria. This should make it a bit easier to separate videos about Alaska from the recipes for Alaskan King Crab, music videos, and whatever else people might associate with the name.

Google Daydream View VR headset on sale for as low as $59

Google recently said that it expects 11 Daydream-compatible phones to be available by the end of 2017, and today you can get a discounted Daydream VR headset to use with those phones.

The Google Daydream View VR headset is now on sale. The Snow version is available for $59 at Amazon and Best Buy, while the Slate color is $63 at Amazon and $59 at Best Buy. If you'd prefer Crimson, you can get it for $75 at Amazon or $59 at Best Buy.

For reference, Google normally asks $79 for the Daydream View.

These are some solid deals on Google's Daydream View — most of them are, anyway — and so this could be a good time to grab a VR headset if you've been interested in trying Daydream VR.

The phones that currently support Daydream VR include the Pixel, Pixel XL, Moto Z, Huawei Mate 9, ZTE Axon 7, and ASUS ZenFone AR, and the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will soon gain support for Daydream VR.

ASUS ZenFone 4 set to debut on August 19

It's almost time for ASUS to unveil a brand new smartphone in the ZenFone lineup.

Today ASUS sent out invitations for an event which will take place the Philippines. The company doesn't beat around the bush too much in the invite putting the ZenFone 4 name down at the bottom just to make sure they get the point across. We can also see two giant circles near the middle with the tagline "Time to be more than ONE" at the top, which is a pretty clear indication we'll see a dual rear camera setup on the ZenFone 4.

We've already seen a ZenFone 4 Max launch in Russia earlier this year, so it's possible that ASUS is planning on simply relaunching that handset in other markets with a different name. The ZenFone 4 Max includes a pair of cameras on the back and it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 (or Snapdragon 425) processor under the hood, depending on variant.

Will ASUS update the ZenFone 4 in some way compared to the ZenFone 4 Max? We don't have long to wait to find out.

LG V30 Release Date for North America Leaked

We already know LG is going to unveil its next-gen flagship, the V30 a day before IFA 2017 kick starts in Berlin. The date for the grand event is scheduled for August 31.

But when will we be able to purchase the phone? According to Android Authority which managed to get a hold of an internal document showcasing LG's upcoming plans for the premium handset codenamed "Joan", the phone will go on sale on September 15 in South Korea.

Shortly afterward, pre-orders for the handset will open up in the US on September 17. The gadget will finally hit the shelves on September 28.

Which means that if we're lucky, we might get to see the LG V30 land in Canada by the end of autumn. It's just a speculation at this point, as nothing has yet been confirmed, but we'll keep you posted.

In case you don't remember, the LG V30 is poised to arrive with a spacious 6-inch OLED display sans a secondary display on top this time around. The phone should arrive with an elongated body and really slim bezels pretty much like the LG G6 before it. It's probably also going to include a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. An additional version with 6GB of RAM might also be made available.
