[Update: Back Again] Instagram Now Lets You "3D Touch" Photos On Android

  • After removing the '3D Touch' experiment, we've confirmed that Instagram has added the feature back in the latest version of the app.

reisdarepublica

The highlight feature of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is something called "3D Touch" — a way of interacting with the phone by pressing harder on the screen than you regularly would. This is not to be confused with "Force Touch," which is exactly the same thing but on the Apple Watch instead.

Leak shows Blackberry Priv heading to T-Mobile in January

T-Mobile fans holding out for the Blackberry Priv may finally have a date to circle on their calendars. A leaked document shows that the Blackberry Priv is scheduled to go on sale at T-Mobile on January 26. The price of T-Mobile's Blackberry Priv isn't revealed in the leak, but it'll likely be close to $700 since that's what Blackberry is charging for the phone though its website.

With the Priv heading to T-Mobile and Verizon during the month of January, BlackBerry should see a significant sales bump. The company hasn't given us any solid sales figures for its first Android-powered phone, but it has stated that it's satisfied with how things are going so far. The Priv has received mixed reviews from the tech community, but out of 120 consumer reviews on AT&T's website, it does have a 4.6 out of 5 stars. Based on how things are shaping up with the Priv, we can pretty much guarantee that we'll be seeing a few more Android-powered Blackberry smartphones in the future.

HTC’s cost-cutting measures lead to sale of Taoyuan City factory

HTC may not have any plans to close up shop in 2016, but the company's plans to reduce overall operating costs by 35% has led to the sale of its Taoyuan City factory and property. The assets have been sold to Inventec for $174 million, but HTC is planning to relocate its employees that still work at the factory. In 2013, HTC temporarily stopped smartphone production line at its Taoyuan City factory due to slowing sales of HTC phones.

During the third quarter of this year, HTC announced that its overhead reduction plan would lead to layoff of 15% of its employees, leaving nearly 2,000 people without jobs. While making massive cuts to its work force and selling a factory may seem like dramatic measures to take, they are required sacrifices that need to be made if HTC plans to survive in the current environment. Hopefully, HTC's 2016 flagship can help turn the tides a little and allow HTC to pull its head above water.

LG G5 Could Come With A Dual Display, Dual Cameras And A Mysterious Hardware “Magic Slot”

LG Logo

After all this talk about the Galaxy S7, Samsung's other Korean competitor LG is expected to launch their LG G5 flagship smartphone next year. Rumours for the LG G5 have already begun and they're quite interesting.

snapdragon

A source familiar with the matter revealed to Venture Beat what the LG G5 will feature. First off, the G5 will include two displays, a 5.3-inch QHD display and a smaller second screen similar to the one found on the LG V10. There will be not one but two rear cameras, one of which is 16MP and the other allows for wide angle shots (135 degrees).

The previously rumoured fingerprint sensor and Snadpragon 820 SoC and 3GB of RAM are also present but no word on whether it includes a microSD card slot.

The phone will also feature something called (for now) a "Magic Slot" which might allow for connectivity with external cameras, audio amps and even external keyboards. The release date is still unknown but as with every other device in history, more will soon follow.

AT&T will kill two-year contracts next month

Two-year contracts are will soon be shunned by another US carrier. On January 8, 2016, AT&T will stop offering contracts with its smartphones, the operator confirmed to PhoneScoop. That means that the only ways to get a new phone from AT&T will be to pay full price or pay in installments with AT&T Next. AT&T does say that business customers will still be able to get a contract.

Meanwhile, leaks and rumors have shed more light on AT&T's upcoming move. Leaked AT&T documents show that unlike Verizon, which recently stopped offering contracts to new customers but still allow existing contract customers to upgrade to a subsidized phone, contracts will be dead for both new and existing AT&T customers. If you want a tablet, hotspot, wearable, or Internet of Things device from AT&T, though, a Droid-Life report says that you'll still be able to get those products on a contract.

Contracts used to be the way that pretty much all US wireless customers bought a new phone, but in recent years, the carriers have been moving to installment plans. AT&T started to move away from contracts earlier this year when it stopped offering them at third-party retailers like Best Buy, but soon they'll stop being available at AT&T stores, too. It's a big deal for the US wireless industry that helps to show consumers the true cost of a smartphone.

Are any of you currently in a contract with your carrier?
