[RIP YouTube Gaming] Twitch now supports video uploading through Uploads Open Beta

twitch-upload

YouTube Gaming, Google's direct competitor to Twitch, has had something of a lukewarm response from the gaming community. Many streamers opt to stay on Twitch's site, the advantages over the standard YouTube app and website are minimal, and YouTube's infamous Content ID system can result in channels receiving copyright notices for seemingly anything.

But Twitch is first and foremost a streaming site - broadcasts can only be watched for a few days after the air date before they are removed.

Kia and Mercedes announce new models with Android Auto support

Android Auto is continuing to be adopted by car manufacturers, though some are stubbornly avoiding the new tech (we're looking at you, Toyota). Kia and Mercedes have announced a bunch of new models that will have Android Auto support.

These are Kia's supported models:

  • 2014 – 2016 Soul
  • 2015 Optima
  • 2015 – 2016 Optima Hybrid
  • 2015 – 2016 Optima Plug-in Hybrid
  • 2015 – 2016 Sedona
  • 2015 – 2016 Soul EV
  • 2016 Sorento
  • 2017 Forte
  • 2017 Optima Hybrid
  • 2017 Optima Plug-in Hybrid
  • 2017 Sedona
  • 2017 Soul
  • 2017 Soul EV
  • 2017 Sorento

And these are Mercedes' supported models:

  • 2017 A-Class
  • 2017 B-Class
  • 2017 CLA Coupe
  • 2017 CLA Shooting Brake
  • 2017 GLA
  • 2017 E-Class Wagon
  • 2017 E-Class Coupe
  • 2017 E-Class Cabriolet

It's good to see more manufacturers adopting Android Auto, and we hope this trend continues. Using your phone and its superior and constantly-updated software as a car's entertainment center is better than the outdated software that car manufacturers throw into cars these days. And hey, even if you don't get a new car every two years, your entertainment system will constantly get better!

Action Launcher 3 updated, includes launcher shortcuts from Android 7.1

Action Launcher 3 is getting yet another feature from the leaked Pixel Launcher, and this time it's swipe shortcuts for some Google apps. Swiping an icon causes a menu to open with shortcuts to specific areas of the app, like certain tabs.

The feature is a great way to get to a specific part of the app with one swipe and one click, or swiping without letting go. This comes as an addition to other features from the Pixel Launcher like swiping the dock for the app list, round icons, and more.

If you own Action Launcher 3, head to the Play Store to update it and check out the new features! If not, hit the source link if you're interested in checking it out. This way you won't have to deal with leaked launchers or wait for the official Android 7.1 update.

Twitch Prime provides ad-free Twitch streaming and other goodies with your Amazon Prime subscription

twitch-prime

Amazon has owned streaming giant Twitch since 2014, but besides a Fire TV app, you would be hard-pressed to find evidence of Amazon's handywork. Today that changes, with Twitch announcing their new premium subscription, Twitch Prime. And as you may guess from the title, it comes free with an Amazon Prime subscription.

To put it simply, Twitch Prime is a bit similar to YouTube Red. You get free game content every month (such as indie games or DLC), as well as discounts on new games sold by Amazon during the pre-order period and first two weeks of launch.

Wikipedia Android app updated with bottom navigation row

wikipediaAndroid visual standards are a hot topic - just check the comment section every time a point of contention in Material Design springs up. One of the most contentious is top tabs and slide-out menus, as featured in Android since Ice Cream Sandwich, versus bottom navigation links, as tends to be popular with lazy iPhone ports (though they're actually part of the documentation). The latest update to the official Wikipedia app indulges in a little bottom-nav action, and it's...

Some Android Wear watches not playing nice with iPhone 7

If you're using an Android Wear smartwatch with an iPhone (and we know that there are quite a few who are), you may want to hold off on upgrading to the iPhone 7.

Some people are experiencing issues with the iPhone 7′s Bluetooth connectivity, including not being able to pair their phone with the second gen Moto 360, Moto 360 Sport, ASUS ZenWatch 2, Fossil Q Founder, and TAG Heuer Connected. This may also apply to the first gen Moto 360 and the LG G Watch.

Unfortunately, this may not be Google's fault. It seems that people are having trouble with the iPhone 7′s Bluetooth connectivity in general, including flaky or dead connections to cars and other devices. (It was a bad time to remove the headphone jack, huh?) It might be on Apple to fix this, but Google is looking into it.

Samsung's proprietary mobile payment system is expanding to Russia. Starting today, folks in Russia will be able to use Samsung Pay with five banks. Those are Alfa-Bank Banking Group, VTB24, MTS Bank, Raiffeisen Bank, Russian Standard Bank, and Yandex.

The list of devices that support Samsung Pay in Russia is similarly short. You'll need a Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy A5 (2016), or Galaxy A7 (2016).

If you own one of these devices in Russia, give Samsung Pay a shot and let us know what you think! And if you're in countries like Canada and the UK where Samsung Pay hasn't launched, you can wonder why Russia got it first.

Action Launcher preemptively adds launcher shortcuts expected to debut with the Pixel Launcher

al-short

As you may have noticed in a recent teardown, Google's launcher shortcuts are most likely returning in Android 7.1 with the Pixel Launcher. This feature was part of the Nougat developer preview some months ago, but wasn't implemented in the final release. Now, an improved version is on the way, and Action Launcher continues its tradition of adding all the Pixel Launcher things before the Pixel Launcher even exists.

Google Calendar events can now be seen in Google Maps

Google Maps has always tried to make it easier to get from one place to another, and its latest update will make it easier for users to find their way to a scheduled event.

The Google Maps team has teamed up with the Google Calendar team to make Calendar events viewable within Maps. You can also navigate to your event's location inside of Google Maps.

When you enter a new event, you'll need to make sure to enter the address for where you're going in the "Where" box. You'll also have to be signed into Google Maps and Google Calendar to get the feature to work. It's easy to see a list of upcoming events, too, each of which can be accessed and the address brought up for easy navigation, by accessing the side menu and selecting "Your Places." Once inside, choose the "Upcoming" option, and a list of events will show up.

How often do you use Google Maps?
