BlackBerry announced yesterday that it will no longer be making its own hardware. This is a move to cut costs and focus on software, where BlackBerry may still see success. This news worried fans of the classic BlackBerry keyboard.
Thankfully, CEO John Chen says that the keyboard isn't going anywhere. Despite its hardware being outsourced, BlackBerry will keep to company standards and the keyboard we all loved will make a return in the future.
If the company that builds BlackBerry's next keyboard-sporting device can nail the amazing feel of keyboards past, BlackBerry's move away from hardware may not be a bad one for consumers. And if it keeps a brand we love alive, it'll be even better. We hate to see iconic brands die.
