Google has an event planned for October 4, where we'll see new devices debut, but before then, a new report is shedding some light on Google might have planned for next year.
According to unnamed sources speaking with Android Police, Google is hard at work on a new "laptop device" that's codenamed "Bison" but goes by the nickname "Pixel 3″ with Google employees. As far as rumored features go, the Bison/Pixel 3 will reportedly feature a 12.3-inch display which will be capable of switching to a tablet mode, but it's not clear if that means it can actually be detached from the physical keyboard.
The other specs could include an Intel Core i5 or Intel m3 processor under the hood, with 32GB/128GB of built-in storage, 8GB/16GB of RAM, and a pair of USB Type-C ports. It will also reportedly feature four microphones, stereo speakers, a backlit keyboard, a glass trackpad, a fingerprint reader, and a 3.5mm headphone jack for good measure. The device could also boast Wacom stylus support, but the stylus will be sold separately.
The report does indicate that all of these features are still in the early stages, and Google might opt to go in a different route, so nothing is set in stone just yet.
The operating system on board is reportedly codenamed "Andromeda," and it's apparently a combination of Android and Chrome OS. If the sources are on track, it would mean Chrome OS features would be folded into Android. This means it won't be something like Chrome OS running Android apps, so a distinct change from how things look now.
Google is reportedly planning on launching the Pixel 3 in the third quarter of 2017. It could be priced at $799, which would be a lower price point than the Chromebook Pixel laptop.
