LG: V20 coming in September with Android 7.0

Late last year, LG introduced a totally new flagship smartphone in the V10 with a second screen and a focus on its camera features. This year, the V10 is getting a follow-up.

The LG V20 will debut in September. LG confirmed the news today, adding that the V20 will launch with Android 7.0 Nougat. LG didn't spill any spec details for its upcoming flagship, but according to the translated announcement, we can expect the V20 to offer enhanced multimedia capabilities.

When it launched in 2015, the LG V10 offered several high-end specs, including 4GB of RAM and a 5.7-inch 2560×1440 display. It also had a focus on multimedia, with dual cameras that could capture wide-angle selfies and a 16-megapixel rear camera that was bolstered with lots of software features, like a full manual mode, electronic image stabilization during video capture, and more. Rounding out its unique features was a secondary screen above the main display that could offer app shortcuts, weather and time info when the large screen was off, and more.

While LG isn't quite ready to talk specs for the V20, it seems likely that it'll be a flagship in the same vein as the V10. If LG is touting the V20 as having a multimedia focus, we could see a large display and beefed up camera features similar to those found on the V10. The good news is that we don't have long to wait before we find out exactly what makes the V20 tick.

Flow, Microsoft's cloud automation engine, gets an Android beta app

Microsoft wants to get in on some of that sweet action that services like If This, Then That and its competitors have been working on for years. To that end they've created Flow, a new web tool that automates actions across some of the major web services available at the moment, most of which (shocker!) aren't even owned by Microsoft. Flow allows users to set up automated "recipes" to complete tasks in Twitter, Dropbox, Google Drive, Slack, OneDrive, Github, Facebook, YouTube, and more.

YouTube version 11.29 returns the 'X' close button in the background notification

We've taken a look at the APK for the latest version of YouTube, 11.29, and there's some mildly interesting bits under the hood, but not much that's user-facing. There's one exception: the little "X" button to close the notification has returned. See it up there? It's back. Hooray!

Of course you only get the notification if you're 1) subscribed to the YouTube Red premium service and 2) have background play enabled in the app's settings menu.

Exclusive: future Camera update will add more photo grid options and a handy toggle

At the moment, the default Google camera app allows a staggering one option for a helpful photo grid: on or off. As happy as we are that it's there at all (if you're wondering, it's very good for getting a straight perspective and a balanced composition), we'd like to see some more options. And we'll get them sometime soon! We've managed to snag a preview of a future update for the APK, and while it's not exactly mind-blowing, it does add some very welcome tweaks to the grid.

Pokémon GO update fixes the 'footprints' tracker by removing it, adds avatar adjustment and other tweaks

A couple of weeks ago, when the "three footprints" monster tracking system in Pokémon GO suddenly stopped working and showed three steps for everything, I decided to stop playing the game until Niantic fixed the issue so I could reliably find Pokémon nearby. I guess the joke's on me.

Pokémon GO version 0.31.0 takes out the footprints system entirely, so now players are merely presented with a vague list of nearby critters.

Waze beta reminds you not to forget your kid in the car

Nest app update introduces Spaces view, groups products by room and shows live video on the home screen
