Samsung Galaxy S5 rooted before release

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is set to release on April 11 and we can't wait to get our hands on it. Apparently Chainfire doesn't feel like waiting until then before starting his work on it, because he has already managed to root S5. Yes, the unreleased Galaxy S5 has already been rooted. This happens quite often with new Samsung devices, but it's still quite an achievement.

The firmware that was rooted came from the SM-G900F, which is the international LTE Galaxy S5. The root method works by using ODIN to flash a temporary custom recovery, add the SuperSU app and necessary root files and then reflash the stock recovery. This probably won't work with any carrier model that's bootloader locked, which is expected, but those users with an unlocked bootloader will be able to use this method.

It's awesome that the Galaxy S5 is already rooted so that early adopters can have fun with it. I still hope that the carriers will stop locking their devices down, though, even if that's extremely unlikely here in the US.

Will you be buying the Galaxy S5 and rooting it soon after? Leave a comment!
