Voice calling finally starting to appear for some WhatsApp users

whatsapp_calling_feature_01 Many users have been anticipating WhatsApp to finally bring voice calling to its application sometime in 2015, and it looks like the feature is beginning to roll out to some users. The calling, like WhatsApp messaging, uses an internet connection to place a phone call instead of relying exclusively on a carrier's network to handle the call.

The updated calling interface isn't available to everyone, but according to some Reddit users, if you already have the update you can get another person in on the voice calling action by placing a call to them, forcing the interface update. WhatsApp hasn't made anything official just yet, so this is all pure speculation and trial and error.

Regardless, if you've been wanting voice calling through the app, you shouldn't have to wait too much longer. If some users are seeing it, we can probably expect a massive launch for everyone in the near future.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is now rolling out to the Galaxy S 4 in Russia

Android 5.0 Lollipop has begun rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy S 4. In Russia, that is. The country is the first to receive the Lollipop update on the standard Galaxy S 4, though the Google Play edition of the device has had the update for some time now. The update weighs in at a whopping 1050MB, making it over 1GB in size. It's also noted that at least 3GB of free storage is required to download and install the update, so make sure your phone has some space before updating.

It's a pleasant surprise to see the update rolling out to the Galaxy S 4 already, and it shows that Samsung is committed to supporting older devices. U.S. customers are still waiting for Lollipop on the Galaxy S5, though the device has begun to receive it in other countries, indicating that a U.S. release is likely coming soon. U.S.-based Galaxy S 4 customers might have to wait a little longer, though, as the Galaxy S5 will probably be updated first.

Help! My Android has malware!

What to do if you think you've got an infected Android phone or tablet

We've talked about antivirus apps for Android a little, specifically if you really need to use one at all. It's a good thing to talk about and sort through all the FUD and nonsense about malware on our smartphones and tablets.

Today, we're going to talk about what t o do if you think you might be infected by malware. There's always plenty of discussion (and sometimes a bit of fear-mongering) about how to prevent malware on Android, but very little about what to do if it happens to you. Prevention is still the best idea, whether it's from careful monitoring of the things you do or by using an app to monitor for you, but you can survive a malware attack.

Top free antivirus apps for Android

There are a ton of options when it comes to antivirus apps on your Android phone or tablet — but there are only a handful of truly free ones. Many offer free features, with more robust features available as at a premium or subscription basis. You can get just as many great features from an unrestricted free app however. And in this case we're talking all-the-way free.

So while we still contend that you don't necessarily need a virus scanner on Android, it's still a conversation we're going to have, and we're going to look at some of the apps that are currently available.

All of these apps offer the basics like virus and malware scanning, but a few also have features that go beyond, like app managers, app locks, privacy controls, phone finder, remote wipe and more. So if you're looking for a great free antivirus app for Android, look no further than these apps.

Samsung Gear VR is to blame for the Galaxy Note 4 not having Android 5.0 Lollipop

Samsung_Galaxy_Note_4_Front_Samsung_Logo_TA

Owners of the Galaxy Note 4 are probably wondering where the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is. The device is the newest to be released by Samsung and the software launched right around the same time as the Galaxy Note 4. Apparently, Oculus is to blame. The company behind Samsung's Gear VR is busy adjusting the kernel specifically for the headset.
