Samsung to Make TouchWiz’s Bloat a Downloadable Option

TouchWiz-Update-Galaxy-S5-Nexus

A few weeks ago we reported that Samsung was forcing TouchWiz to take a crash diet, purportedly bringing the Android overlay to near-Nexus levels of simplicity and vanillaness. Well now we have a few more details on the Korean giant's plans.

Accordingly to reports, Samsung is removing most add-ons to TouchWiz that can be reconfigured as downloadable apps. Samsung hasn't released information on which TouchWiz features are part of this restructuring, but if we're dealing with features that can be transliterated into apps, such seldom-used services as Story Album, S Voice, S Translator, etc., might be up for review.

Other, more popular features of TouchWiz are likely to remain as core parts of the software bundle. Samsung will spin this move as a nice way to slim down TouchWiz – and it is – but it's also the result of their own research demonstrating that there are some parts of TouchWiz that remain un…touched, and there's little incentive to force bloated software updates on consumers.

No word yet on whether this version of TouchWiz will debut with the as-yet-unseen Galaxy S6, but it's likely.
