It tends to get pretty hot during the summer months, and for a phone charging in that type of environment, the heat can be too much to bear. As a result, Chevrolet has introduced a new feature in some of its 2016 model cars that could come in handy.
The feature is called "Active Phone Cooling," and it does exactly what the name implies. Chevrolet's designers noticed that when in a hot environment, some phones were getting too hot while charging wirelessly, and they would actually stop the charging process or shut down altogether to avoid any permanent damage. Wanting to make sure that owners could keep charging their phones despite the heat, Chevy worked out a solution.
The new feature will direct cool air from the air conditioning unit and the car's ventilation system directly onto the device, hopefully keeping it cool as the phone charges. The new feature won't switch on unless the HVAC system has been activated, so users can keep some kind of control over when their phone is getting covered in cold air.
As far as vehicle availability goes, Chevy will bring the new feature to its 2016 Malibu, Impala, Cruze and Volt.
What do you think of the new feature?
