Google Play Music Gets a Lot Smarter, Delivers Relevant Content

Google's Play Music isn't one of the search giant's most popular services. When it comes to music streaming the majority of users probably use Spotify, Apple Music and the like, but Google aims to change that.

The Pixel maker has just announced a major overhaul of Play Music service which is now more intelligent and more intuitive to use. The revamped app now takes advantage of the search engine's contextual tools to make specific music recommendations based on the user's location and activity.

There's a new layout to look forward too, called the "ultimate personal DJ" which features bigger cards or playlists and stations. It can also learn your listening patterns and act accordingly.

So if the app detects you left work after putting in long hours it will bring up a playlist of relaxing songs. Or if you're at the gym, Google can play your workout playlist to get you pumped for physical exercise.

Music lovers can now use the app to discover new music. Based on activity and taste, Google Play Music will suggest new artists based on the user's musical patterns.

Google integrated advanced machine learning systems to be able to make the app adaptive. That means the service is capable of learning and gets better as you use it. Another neat feature is the offline playlist based on what the user has been listening to recently, so you won't have to depend on Wi-Fi or data to listen to music.

Google will be rolling out the new app this week for Android, iOS and web. A monthly subscription costs CAD $9.99.
