When it was announced that Google would be selling Motorola to Lenovo late last month, word got around that Google would be keeping the Advanced Technology and Projects group that was formed inside Motorola and responsible for Project Ara. Google appears to be moving full steam ahead with its modular phone efforts, because today it announced a series of developer conferences aimed at getting third-party developers acquainted with the process of making custom Ara modules.
The first conference is set for April 15 -16. A select few developers, those who Google deems most appropriate — AKA those who will actually be making modules, not just fanboys — will be allowed to attend in person at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, Calif. Those who can't attend or don't make the cut will be able to take part in the conference through a live stream.
Google hasn't revealed when the next two conferences will be, only that they will take place in 2014. There were doubts about whether or not Motorola and Google would ever bring Project Ara to life, but this is a great sign of just how quickly things are moving forward.
