Could HTC release Blinkfeed to other Android devices?

HTC's announcement of the HTC One (M8) yesterday came with news about an update to their UI overlay for their devices. One of the biggest components of HTC Sense 6, or Sixth Sense, is the BlinkFeed app. The app is a feed aggregator that collects information from social networks, your calendar, news sources, and other content and puts it all in one single stream. Currently, BlinkFeed is only available on the HTC One (M8).

However, HTC recently took steps to push some core apps from its interface to Google Play. This is a similar strategy to Motorola. By pushing these core apps out to Google Play, manufacturers do not have to wait on carriers to approve and roll out updates to Android for devices on their network since the core apps are now separated from the operating system. Along with this move, HTC also announced yesterday that they were making an SDK available for developers who want to integrate their content into the BlinkFeed platform.

These moves mean HTC could make BlinkFeed available for non-HTC devices just by changing the device check settings in Google Play. HTC also issued the following statement regarding BlinkFeed:

"Following its popularity with HTC users, HTC will now make HTC BlinkFeed available to other Android devices, launching on the Google Play store soon."

The language is a bit vague as "other Android devices" could just refer to devices manufactured by HTC.

Do you think it would be a good business move by HTC to make BlinkFeed available on competitor devices?
