Motorola has released several of its unique apps into Google Play, allowing the company to update them as it sees fit, rather than forcing users to wait for a full-on firmware update to roll them out. Motorola has certainly taken advantage of this opportunity, upgrading apps like Touchless Control and Migrate with all kinds of new features. Now it looks like HTC is going to pull a similar move, but it's also going to take things one step further.
HTC has announced that its HTC BlinkFeed app will be made available for download from Google Play to non-HTC Android phones in the near future. The company says that it reached this decision because of BlinkFeed's popularity with existing HTC users. HTC plans to make its Zoe app available to other devices as well, saying that the camera app will be available for download from the Play Store "this summer."
While it'd be good news for HTC users if the company had simply decided to emulate Motorola by releasing its apps into Google Play for easy updating, it's even better to see that HTC will be making some of its exclusive apps available to non-HTC hardware. This will give consumers a chance to see what HTC Sense is all about, potentially convincing them to check out HTC's hardware and the full-on Sense experience. And hey, even if you don't end up getting an HTC device, at least you'll have some fresh news reader and camera apps to play with on your non-HTC phone.
