The HTC HD2 is not a great device. Rather, it's a symbol. It's a symbol of how long a device can really stay useful. Of what developers can achieve. How important it is to have a hackable device. And most of all, it's a symbol of hope. That no matter the adversity, it can be overcome if you try hard enough. And we could learn a thing or two from the HD2.
The latest venture the ancient device has gotten itself into is a port of the Nokia X user interface. The Android fork disguised as Windows Phone was created for the Nokia X line of devices, the lowest end of which isn't all that different from the aging HD2. However, someone has gotten the Nokia X ROM to boot on the device, which is a huge success.
Now let's get this out of the way: No, not much works but graphics and audio. Connectivity, storage, almost everything is broken. But that's okay, because getting the device to boot at all is a big feat. It proves that a five year old device can still be kicking, while we upgrade once a year. It's inspirational in a way.
But seriously, the developers behind the HD2 are just plain awesome. It's hard to believe this old Windows Mobile device can run Nokia X UI, Sense 5, and far more. How many of you guys had an HTC HD2? How many still have one? Tell us in the comments!
