Another Flounder spotting hints at 64-bit Nexus 8 tablet

Earlier this month some references to a Google device codenamed "Flounder" surfaced and added to the mounting evidence that Google was working on a successor to the Nexus 7 tablet. That information, since scrubbed from the source by Google, pointed to an HTC produced device. Now, some new references to Flounder hint at a 64-bit device.

The discussion amongst developers that has surfaced mentions both the Flounder codename and the "Volantis" codename which was used in conjunction with Flounder on the previous occasion. In addition to references to a 64-bit ARM processor, one of the entries also mentions NVIDIA's Tegra specifically. All of this suggests quite strongly that Google is hoping to get a 64-bit capable version of Android out to the market.

With Google I/O only a few weeks away at the end of June, this could be one of Google's big announcements. Not only would they be coming out with a new tablet device, it would be running a 64-bit enabled version of Android.
