Amidst the sea of announcements coming yesterday from I/O, Google found time for its traditional Update Wednesday. Besides a nice update to Search that brought system-wide hotword support, Google also pushed changes to its Drive app.
Version 2.0.222.39 of the Drive Android app (up from 1.3) brings one notable user facing change in the form of a new document view interface that puts frequent tasks, such as renaming, downloading a copy, or sharing with a contact, at your fingertips. Previously, these tasks were hidden in the overflow menu.
Users can access the document view mode by clicking on the "i" icon displayed to the right of each file. In the new version, you get a larger preview of the file, a button to keep the file on the device for offline access, meta information on the file, a redesigned sharing area, and a new activity tracker. Functionality seems to remain the same as before, but everything is displayed in a more modern and friendlier way.
The update will be hitting your device shortly, but if you want to skip the queue, you can download a signed APK file from here, courtesy of XDA Portal.
