It looks like Verizon is getting a brand new phone from Motorola, exclusively for its prepaid customers. The new prepaid device is called the Motorola Luge. What's that? Looks familiar? Oh, that's because the phone isn't new at all, it's really just the 2-year old Motorola Droid Razr M with a new name.
Priced at $199 for prepaid customers, the Luge is an exact rebadge of the M — not just when it comes to specs, but its aesthetics are identical as well. For those that don't remember the Razr M, the handset debuted back in 2012 as a mid-ranger and came equipped with a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 and 1GB of RAM. Other specs include a 4.3-inch qHD display, 8GB storage with microSD, an 8MP rear cam, a 2000 mAh battery, LTE support and Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
As you can see, the specs aren't really all that impressive, but they're not horrible either. Is the Luge worth picking up? Honestly, we'd probably pass. While $200 for this handset wouldn't be bad in a world without the Moto G, the fact remains that the Moto G exists and is only $99 on Verizon prepaid. The only advantages found on the M is that it has microSD and LTE support, though we aren't quite sure if that's worth an extra $100. In fact, the ZTE Warp Sync on Boost offers similar advantages with none of the disadvantages and is just $180.
It's hard to say why Motorola and Verizon are even bringing pack the Luge, when they'd be better off simply introducing the Moto G 4G LTE to Verizon prepaid. More than likely the answer is that they had extra Droid M devices in stock and were looking for a way to get rid of them, though that's really just speculation on our part.
