OnePlus is holding a blind pre-sale for the OnePlus 3

OnePlus is a company that has risen up and made a name for itself, largely through its unique and varied marketing tactics. It hasn't always been successful (once being forced to offer a formal apology) with its attempts, but the company hasn't stopped experimenting. With the launch of the OnePlus 3 drawing near, OnePlus is back again with another unique concept.

In China, OnePlus will offer a blind pre-sale for the OnePlus 3, allowing up to 1,000 people to purchase the smartphone without knowing anything about it, including the price. OnePlus has set the sample price at 2,999 Yuan ($455 USD), and when the official price is revealed, there will either be refunds issued to buyers or they'll be required to pay the price difference.

To reward these extreme early adopters, OnePlus is offering participants a free six-month display warranty and a gift certificate worth 249 Yuan ($48 USD). Will that be enough to entice customers? That remains to be seen, but unsatisfied customers are free to cancel their orders and receive a full refund.

OnePlus will open the sale through its Chinese website on June 6 at 10 AM in China. The company will officially launch the OnePlus 3 on June 15, at 10 AM in China, with shipments going out that day.

We still know very little about the OnePlus 3, but rumors have pointed to an aluminum design, Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 16-megapixel camera.

What are your thoughts on OnePlus's latest marketing move?
