Google’s Sailfish and Marlin may be called ‘Pixel’ and ‘Pixel XL’, debut rumored for Oct. 4

The new Nexus rumor mill has been heating up in recent months, and today we're getting two of the biggest leaks yet.

First up, we've now got new names for Google and HTC's upcoming phones, following a recent report claiming that they won't be known as Nexus devices. Sources speaking to Android Police claim that the Sailfish and Marlin will be known as "Pixel" and "Pixel XL," respectively.

The exact reason for the name change isn't known, but we can speculate about it. Google past three Pixel devices have been ones that Google has had a heavy influence on, and it's said that the Sailfish and Marlin have more Google-y influence than Nexus phones of the past. Not only has Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that Google will "be more opinionated" about Nexus devices, but past leaks have suggested that the new phones could have a Google "G" logo rather than an HTC or Nexus logo.

A separate report from AP claims that we'll finally get to meet these Pixel and Pixel XL phones on October 4. In addition to to the Pixels, it's said that Google will use this event to announce a new 4K-capable Chromecast and an in-house design for a Daydream VR headset and also share more information about Google Home.

So what do you make of these latest leaks? Do you prefer the name "Pixel" over "Nexus" for Google and HTC's upcoming phones?
