Google announces October 4 event as new Pixel and Pixel XL photos leak out

Mark your calendars: Google is holding an event on Oct. 4.

Google today posted a video teaser for an Oct. 4 event, and while the clip doesn't explicitly say what Google's got planned, new Pixel phones look pretty likely. The video starts by showing an empty search box and it slowly morphs into the shape of a phone. The description of the video includes a link to a madeby.google.com website.

While we'll probably have to wait until Oct. 4 to officially meet Google's new phones, the rumor mill is happy to show us photos of the devices before then. Photos that show the front and back of the Pixel and Pixel XL have been shared by Android Police.

The Pixels in these photos have glass inserts that house the rear camera, flash, and fingerprint reader, as well as some visible antenna lines. There are power/lock and volume buttons on the sides of both phones.

Moving around front, we can see that each Pixel has an earpiece, a sensor below it, and a front-facing camera to the side of it. The screens of both phones are on, but neither display reveals much about the devices.

As a refresher, the Pixel and Pixel XL are expected to have spec lists that largely mirror each other. Both are expected to have 12-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front cameras, 4GB of RAM, fingerprint readers, and USB Type-C ports. The two areas where the phones will reportedly differ are their screens and batteries: the Pixel will reportedly pack a 5-inch 1920×1080 display and 2770mAh battery, while the Pixel XL is said to be coming with a 5.5-inch 2560×1440 screen and 3450mAh battery.

Based on what we've seen and heard about them so far, are you interested in Google's new Pixel phones?
