Canadian company BlackBerry just pulled the veil off a brand new security-oriented Android smartphone called DTEK60.

Not such an inspired name choice if you ask us, but let's see what the phone has to offer in terms of specs and function. The DTEK60 is a successor of the DTEK50 and like the latter, it is based on an Alcatel (TCL) design.

It's the high-end Idol 4S, but the company made sure it added its own twist to prototype. The phone features a 5.5-inch QHD display and draws power from a Snapdragon 820 chipset in combination with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internals storage.

As for cameras, the phone comes equipped with a 20MP main camera plus an 8MP selfie shooter. There's also an acceptable 3,000 mAh battery on the inside, fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C port and a neat, programmable button on the side.

One thing that makes the phone pretty impressive is the metal-framed body with dual-glass finish on the back and front. It makes the device looks pretty sleek.

The software department is where BlackBerry shines and that's evident with the DTEK60 too. The handset takes advantage of a highly secured version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but Nougat is also in the cards.

BlackBerry has made the bootloader extra secure too, and added apps like Hardware Root of Trust plus its own productivity-oriented suite of apps like Hub or Calendar.

The BlackBerry DTEK60 is expected to make it out in retail SIM-free with a $499 USD price-tag attached to it. It's also available in Canada, with a bundle priced at $650 CAD, which comes with a case and quick charger.

Are you guys getting it?
