Whatsapp – one of the largest end-to-end encrypted messaging services – has been offering users a way to send messages, photos, videos, voice messages and docs free of charge. Now it appears that the company is finally making available the much-awaiting video calling feature for Android.
As first reported by Android Police, the feature appears to be available in the latest WhatsApp beta version. You should notice a camera icon next to your contacts and if you do, just tap on it and you will be good to go.
However, bear in mind that the other party you are trying to call needs to be updated to the latest version too. Anyone can try and install the latest beta (2.6.318) which is available for download via APK Mirror.
Skype and Facetime on iOS already offer this function, so it was only a matter of time before WhatsApp did something similar. Other apps like Telegram and Signal don't currently offer video calling.
The company is not rolling out an official update just yet, but this will soon happen hopefully. And for good this time. Some of you might remember that back in May, WhatsApp beta had video calling enabled for a short period of time and then the company pulled it shortly.
