Samsung Galaxy S9 To Be Powered By a Snapdragon 845

Well that certainly didn't take long. With the Galaxy S8 launch behind us, the Galaxy S9 has already made an appearance in the rumour mill.

According to a recent report published by The Investor, Qualcomm and Samsung aren't wasting any time. The two companies have already started working on the next-gen Snapdragon 845 processor which will power next year's Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S9.

We're told that two foundries are in line to win the contract to manufacture the next-gen Qualcomm top-tier chipset – Samsung and TSMC. Industry sources have noted that "competition to secure advance mobile chips will intensify down the road", so we might as well assume the Snapdragon 845 could be based on a 7nm process, instead of the 10nm process of this year's Snapdragon 835.

Samsung announced in early 2017 that it has plans to start mass-producing 7nm chipsets in the first months of 2018. TSMC was also said to be prototyping 7nm chips scheduled for production in early 2018, as well.

Be prepared to see more and more leaks about the Galaxy S9 in the upcoming months, even though the next Samsung flagship in line to be announced is the Galaxy Note8. The phablet is expected by some to land sometime in Q4 2017.
