Nokia 8 getting Android 8.0 Oreo update

Nokia debuted its flagship Nokia 8 back in August of this year, and for those who picked up the handset, there's a worthwhile software update now available.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, took to Twitter today to announce that the official rollout of Android 8.0 Oreo had begun for the Nokia 8. The flagship smartphone received a beta of Android 8.0 in October, so this is a pretty quick turnaround for the official update.

Sarvikas points out that this is a typical over-the-air update, so it will be released in waves and will take a couple of days to reach everyone. And in some cases where carriers are still testing the software, the official rollout from them may be up to a week from now.

Some Twitter users pointed out that they had already received the update, so if you have a Nokia 8, it might be worth checking to see if you can get the new software now as well.

When the Android 8.0 Oreo update arrives, you'll get the standard new features, including notification dots for apps, picture-in-picture support, the ability to autofill passwords, the November 2017 Google security patches, and Google Play Protect security scans for apps downloaded from the Play Store.

Do you own a Nokia 8?
