Motorola’s ‘MotoMods’ for the Moto Z leak in new image

Not long ago we got a good look at the backside of what's believed to be Motorola's and Verizon's new DROID handsets. Now, thanks to a newly leaked image, we're getting our first look at what's being called "MotoMods."

MotoMods are going to be modules that attach to the back of the new flagship smartphones released this year from Motorola. There are small connectors on the back plate of the new devices which these accessories connect to, and it looks like they will indeed take up the entirety of the back case when they are put in place.

Motorola's new smartphones are said to be called something like the Moto Z Play and Moto Z Style, and with a MotoMod attached to them, they'll get a boost in functionality. In the image leaked out by Evan Blass (@evleaks), we can see three different MotoMods. The one on the top looks to be a camera accessory, with a lens in the middle, a flash near the top-left corner, and a physical button to snap photos as well.

The case in the middle of the trio looks like it will have a kickstand in the middle, and it's likely to be a battery case as well, as it has a bit of thickness to it. However, there's some unknown elements with that final MotoMod on the bottom of the pile. It's pretty thin, and the difference in material in the middle stretch could indicate it's a case for wireless charging, but nothing is confirmed at this moment.

It will be interesting to see how these MotoMods compare to LG's "Friends" accessories for the modular LG G5, which launched earlier this year.

Are you getting pumped up for the Moto Z? We might only have to wait until June 9 to see it get unveiled.
