Samsung could launch the Galaxy Note 7 this year instead of the Galaxy Note 6

At a point later in the year, Samsung will more than likely launch a followup to the Galaxy Note 5 it launched in 2015. The obvious expectation is that Samsung will launch a Galaxy Note 6 this year because it launched the Galaxy Note 5 last year, but that might not be the case.

ET News is reporting that Samsung is planning on changing things up a bit, and all because it doesn't want to confuse consumers with the naming scheme of its flagship devices. Specifically, the report says Samsung doesn't want potential buyers to think that the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, which launched earlier this year, are more powerful than the Galaxy Note 6. This will be the first time Samsung has done something like this since it launched the Galaxy S series in 2010 and the Galaxy Note lineup in 2011.

It's an interesting move if it's true, especially simply aiming to be consistent with another lineup of devices. Still, one might argue it's a legitimate reason to change things up. Or it might not be.

Do you think it's a good move to skip the Galaxy Note 6 name?
