YouTube TV launches in 5 U.S. cities for $35 per month
It was back in late February when YouTube TV was first announced, unveiling a brand new streaming TV service for a crowding market.
While YouTube TV was announced with plenty of key details along with it, including the $35 per month price, what we didn't know was when exactly it would launch and where it would be available. Today we've got answers to both of those questions.
YouTube TV officially launched today, April 5, and it is available in five cities in the United States to start: the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles in California; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; New York City, New York; and Chicago, Illinois.
For $35 per month, subscribers get access to channels like ABC, ESPN, NBC, Fox, and many others. It also includes a cloud DVR feature, allowing subscribers to record shows they might not be able to catch live. And it also supports up to six accounts, all for one price, so individuals can have their own cloud DVRs and recommendations. You also get access to YouTube Red Originals. Customers can watch their content on mobile, cast to their TVs with Chromecast, and on the desktop.
Right now, YouTube TV is offering a free month-long trial, so you can go right here and sign up if you live in one of the launch markets.
The YouTube blog also confirmed that channels like AMC, BBC America, Telemundo, Sundance TV, and many others are coming soon. Meanwhile, subscribers can pay extra to add channels like Showtime ($11 per month), Fox Soccer Plus ($15 per month), and others if they so desire.
There's no word on when new markets will be rolled out to support YouTube TV, but hopefully it happens soon. Do you plan on subscribing to the new service?
