ZTE announces budget-friendly Maven and Sonata 2 for AT&T and Cricket Wireless

While ZTE may be trying to find a path to the high-end smartphone market in the U.S., it is already a powerful player here with its low to mid-tier offerings. Today ZTE is announcing two new additions for the U.S. with the ZTE Maven on AT&T and the ZTE Sonata 2 for Cricket Wireless.

ZTE Maven
The Maven is available for just $59.99 with a new line on AT&T and will be running Android 5.1 at launch. It features a Qualcomm 1.2GHz quad core processor and 1GB of RAM. 8GB of internal storage might be a little tight, but with up to 32GB of additional storage available via microSD card, that is easily remedied. The screen is a 4.5-inch FWVGA (480×854) TFT LCD. The rear camera on the Maven is 5MP with a flash and the front facing camera is VGA. The phone supports LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi direct, 802.11 b/g/n and has a 2100mAh non-removable battery.

ZTE Sonata 2
The Sonata 2 is new for Cricket Wireless and comes in at just $29.99 with activation or an eligible upgrade. It will be running Android 4.4 at launch and features a Qualcomm 1.2GHz dual-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. The Sonata 2 trims things back to 4GB of internal storage, which means I would recommend you take advantage of the microSD slot by buying a 32GB card immediately to make room for photos and video. The rear camera on the Sonata 2 is 5MP with an LED flash and the front facing camera is a selfie-friendly 2MP. The screen is a 4-inch WVGA (480×800) LCD. The Sonata 2 supports 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and has a 1650mAh battery.

If you know someone that is looking for a budget device to get started with Android or smartphones in general, then either of these phones should deliver a snappy Android experience at a fraction of the cost of a typical smartphone.
