Andy Rubin’s Upcoming High-End Phone Smiles for the Camera

Android father, Andy Rubin is working on a new smartphone to take on the Google Pixel and iPhone. The phone has been dubbed Essential so far and is supposed to come with a bezeless design in the vein of the Xiaomi Mi MIX.

While it was recently reported that Rubin's project has hit a bump in the road, with SoftBank withdrawing its investment – the good news is that the handset appears to be alive and well after all. Rubin actually tweeted today that he "is really excited about this is shaping up. Eager to get it in more people's hands." And then he posted a teaser image of the device.

As you can see, the phone features a completely bezel-less display and judging by the visible icons it appears to run Android. That's not a big surprise considering that not so long ago a device going by model number Essential FIH-PM1 showed up in Geekbench with a Snapdragon 835 onboard, 4GB of RAM and Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

What's even more interesting is that the phone is rumoured to be similar to Moto Z, in the sense that it might come equipped with modular accessories akin to the Moto Mods. We don't know then Rubin's high-end phone will hit the market, but we expect to see it arrive in the upcoming months.
