HTC U with touch-sensitive frame reportedly set for April debut

Weeks after HTC shipped the U Ultra, details on another noteworthy handset from HTC have leaked.

This HTC U is codenamed "Ocean," according to a new report from VentureBeatand it will feature a 5.5-inch 2560×1440 display. Other key features will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor under the hood, Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, and HTC's proprietary Sense 9 user interface.

The HTC U will also feature 64GB and 128GB variants, with a microSD card slot in either model for expandable storage. Its rear camera will reportedly be a 12-megapixel shooter with a Sony IMX362 sensor, and the front-facing camera will be a 16-megapixel IMX351 camera.

The biggest feature of the upcoming HTC U will reportedly be a metal frame that includes touch-sensitive features. Called Edge Sense, it will reportedly feature customizable actions, like letting you squeeze the phone and swipe the right or left side to choose apps.

To get a feel of what that looks like, here's a video from Evan Blass (@evleaks):

The report indicates that HTC may be planning on showcasing the U before the end of April and that it could see a global launch sometime in May.

With today's report and the video showing off how the Edge Sense technology might work, do you think you might consider the HTC U as your next phone?
