Twitter wants to get around slower internet connections so that as many people as possible can check in on what's going on. Today Twitter officially announced Twitter Lite. It's a lightweight way to check your Twitter feed, and it's accessed by going to mobile.twitter.com from your mobile device's web browser. Twitter Lite is less than 1MB, so it should load well even on a slower connection. Twitter Lite also offers a data saver mode that will blur photos in your timeline, letting you tap on the images that you want to fully load. Twitter says this can reduce data consumption by up to 70 percent. All these changes are designed to help improve Twitter access across the globe.
There's an added bonus for Android users, too. Twitter Lite will send out push notifications from Google Chrome as well as other modern Android browsers. On top of all that, there's offline support, which means that even if you lose your internet connection for a few moments, you can keep checking that timeline. Twitter Lite is available now.
