We've recently heard of the Sony Xperia X Ultra which according to rumours will come equipped with the yet-unreleased Snapdragon 660 processor. Well Qualcomm has reportedly started sending out invites to the official launch even of the Snapdragon 660, scheduled to take place on May 9 in China. According to previous leaks, the Snapdragon 660 should be an octa-core affair with four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz plus four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.9 GHz. It will be built on the 14nm process. The chipset should also offer the services of an Adreno 512GPU, X10 LTE modem. It will offer support for LPDDR4X 1966 MHz RAM, UFS 2.1 flash memory and up to 24MP cameras. The chipset should provide a more affordable alternative for Android OEMs that don't want to bring the prices of their devices up by implementing a Snapdragon 835. Previously leaked benchmarks suggested the Snapdragon 660's performance could be on par with the Snapdragon 820 which currently fuels flagships like the ZTE Axon 7. Word on the street says the Snapdragon 660 should go into mass production sometimes in Q2. The chipset should make it out on phones like the Sony Xperia X Ultra or the rumored Nokia 7 or Nokia 8 soon afterwards.
