Google and Amazon in ‘productive discussions’ about YouTube staying on Fire TV

YouTube is scheduled to disappear from the Amazon Fire TV in less than a month, but now it looks like Google may not yank YouTube after all.

Google has told The Verge that it's in "productive discussions" with Amazon about "an agreement for the benefit of our mutual customers." No other details of the Google-Amazon talks have been given.

Earlier today, Amazon said that it would resume selling Google's Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra two years after pulling them from its shelves. That move could aid in Google and Amazon's discussions, as Google previously said that it was pulling YouTube from the Echo Show and Fire TV because Amazon didn't carry Google products like the Chromecast.

It remains to be seen if Amazon's decision to resume sales of the Chromecast will be enough to get Google to leave YouTube on the Fire TV, but it is a start. Hopefully the two companies can come to an agreement for the good of their shared customers.
