Google closes HTC deal worth $1.1 billion

Back in September of last year, it was confirmed that Google was paying $1.1 billion to HTC for the teams that worked on the Pixel, which would bring those individuals over to Google's ranks.

Now Google has announced that it has closed that deal. With the deal being done, it means those HTC employees are now Google employees and that as a result, Google's engineering site in Taipei is its largest in the Asia Pacific region.

HTC will still be around for the foreseeable future, as this doesn't get rid of the company's own smartphone division. While some of its smartphone talent is heading over to Google, HTC has been positive about the acquisition deal since its inception last year.
