Android P, the next big Android release, is on the way. Ahead of the public launch, Google has been releasing beta builds, and that trend continues today with the release of Android P Beta 4 (Developer Preview 5). This release includes not only the final system behaviors, but also the final APIs. If you are not already signed up for the developer preview program, you can do so right here. If you are, then registered devices will automatically download the new software as it becomes available. The Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL should begin receiving the over-the-air (OTA) update today. Meanwhile, Google's partners that are part of the developer preview program (including Essential) should send out the update for their own supported devices in the coming weeks. When Android P launches later this summer, it will bring with it a new gesture-based navigation, support for display notches, and a digital wellbeing feature that will let you keep tabs on the apps you use and how often you use your phone, among other things.
