Ever since Chrome OS made its debut, there were always reports and rumours of people expecting Chrome OS and Android to merge into one project one day and it looks like that may become a reality.
According to the Wall Street Journal's sources, Google has been rumoured to be working on merging Chrome OS and Android together for the past two years and is expected to announce an early preview as soon as next year, and a public release by 2017. This could be huge for desktop users as it would allow them to install and run Android applications through the Play Store.
This is similar to what Microsoft is doing with Windows, creating a universal OS across phones, tablets and PCs that allows apps to run on all platforms.
None of this has been confirmed by Google so it's interesting how it will play out.
