Google Assistant adds bilingual support to its resume

IFA is going on right now, the trade show where companies like Google take a bit of time to announce new things that might not warrant a full-blown event of their own. Though some might say that adding bilingual support to Google Assistant could certainly use some time on stage.

On Thursday, Google announced that its Assistant can now understand and speak in a bilingual fashion, supporting six different languages right out of the gate.

Google Assistant will now be able to recognize which language you're speaking and respond in kind, even if you swap between English and German, for instance. So, if you want to listen to a German hip-hop artist, you just need to say something like, "Hey Google, spiele die Fantastischen Vier." What's more, all of this is possible without digging into the settings and changing anything around. Google Assistant will simply understand more than one language at a time now.

Google actually announced multilingual support for Google Assistant back in February, so it's good to see the company keeping on track with these new features.

At the time of publication, bilingual support means you can mix and match English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Japanese. Google says it will be expanding to even more languages in the future.

Are you excited to see this new feature added to the laundry list of things Assistant can do?
