Google unveils new and improved Wear OS user interface

The revitalization of Android Wear, which is now known as Wear OS, continues. This time, it's getting a brand new user interface.

Google has announced a brand new way to interact with Wear OS. The goal is to not only provide more information at a glance, but also make it easier to get to all of that content with just a swipe or two.

First, swiping up will let you see all your notifications in a single pane, which can be browsed through at your leisure. Dismissing a notification on your Wear OS smartwatch will also dismiss it from your phone. And future users will be able to tap on a notification to get built-in smart replies.

Google is also including a revamped quick settings panel, which now includes a brand new, dedicated button for Google Pay. Swipe down to get the new panel where you can quickly tap the Google Pay button once you get to the payment terminal.

Swiping to the right will bring you to what Google calls a "proactive" feed from Google Assistant. It's here that future users will be able to see hotel reservations, tracked packages, impending flight information, and more. It's very similar to the now-defunct Google Now. There will be smart suggestions as well, which will let users find a hotel nearby or see more detailed information on the weather.

The new Google Fit is also included in the mix. Simply swipe to the left to access the health and fitness features there. This will give users access to the new Google Fit's Heart Points and Move Minutes, where users can close rings as they reach specific goals on a routine basis.

Google says the new features will come along with a software update for supported smartwatches, which will begin rolling out over the next month.

A software update and a change of branding is certainly a step in the right direction for Google's smartwatch platform. But we also need a new processor under the hood, which Qualcomm says is right around the corner. Plus, Google's making app quality a priority, too, which is another bonus.

What do you think of these UI changes for Wear OS?
