Samsung appears to have once again struck it out of the ballpark so to speak with a pseudo-organic tweet similar to the Ellen DeGeneres selfie taken during the Oscars. This time the celebrity was David Ortiz who was visiting the White House with the Boston Red Sox. During the visit, Ortiz captured a selfie of himself with President Obama. Samsung helped promote the image via Twitter, sending it out to their 5.2 million followers.
It has been reported that on Monday Ortiz inked a deal with Samsung to promote their devices. Similar to what happened with DeGeneres, Samsung took some steps to ensure Ortiz had acce ss to one of their devices, a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in this case. They also spent some time with Ortiz and other members of the Red Sox team ensuring they knew how to take pictures and then share them with their fans.
The DeGeneres selfie tweet went on to become the most popular tweet ever. The Ortiz selfie is not reaching that level, but it is generating thousands of retweets and helping Samsung engage current and potential customers.
