Huawei has today taken the wraps off its Honor Tablet — an 8-inch slate with a 'twist'. According to the Chinese manufacturer, the device has been designed to supersede your smartphone, therefore, you're able to make and receive phone calls, send SMS text messages and browse the internet with this unit.

As far as internals go, the slate packs an IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable internal storage, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 4,800 mAh non-removable battery.

Straight out of the box, the tablet will run the latest build of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean skinned with version 1.6 of Huawei's Emotion UI, but is expected to receive the much-anticipated 4.4 KitKat update shortly after its worldwide launch.

Malaysia will be the first country to receive the slate in about two weeks. Pre-orders for the device start today, Monday, September 29. Units will be priced at RM599.00 — which is approximately $187.
