Project Ara's impending release date is rapidly approaching, and as we get closer, the news gets juicier. The first fully functioning prototype will be shown at the Ara Developer Conference in December, followed by a market launch in early 2015. Big companies like Quanta, Toshiba, Rockchip and Foxconn are steadily collaborating with Google to make Project Ara a success. Laird Technologies and Array labs are also creating modules that should both entice and excite upon release.
As far as the software goes, a modified version of Android L will run on the device, developed with Linaro to allow for hot swappable modules. All modules aside from the CPU and display will be able to be removed and replaced while the device is still running. More modules will be available for purchase on an online store, so you can constantly upgrade.
Are you holding out in hopes of getting a Project Ara device next year, or do you think it's just not worth it? Will this whole idea just be a flop? Leave a comment below and let us know your opinion on Phonebloks.
