After announcing the Honor 9 for China earlier this month, Huawei is back today to talk about global availability for its newest Honor smartphone. The Honor 9 will begin rolling out in the U.K., Germany, France, Spain, Italy and other European countries starting today, June 27th. Pricing for the Honor 9 will start at £379.99/€449,90, and color options include Glacier Grey, Sapphire Blue, and Midnight Black. Huawei has given the Honor 9 some notable upgrades over last year's Honor 8. That includes beefing up the dual rear camera setup to include a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor and 12-megapixel RGB sensor, up from the Honor 8's dual 12-megapixel sensor setup. The Honor 9's 20-megapixel monochrome sensor helps to improve contrast and detail as well as low-light photography, and it can be used on its own to capture monochrome images, too. The Honor 9 is packing an octa-core Kirin 960 processor, up from the Honor 8's Kirin 950 chipset. Also worth noting is that the Kirin 960 is found in Huawei's flagship P10, too.
Huawei is also touting the Honor 9's audio capabilities. The company teamed up with Grammy award-winning producer Rainer Maillard to optimize the Honor 9's sound quality, while Monster created a special Honor Purity sound equalizer for the Honor 9. Finally, Huawei says that it's included Huawei Histen, a wide 3D sound field technology that includes three sound modes for different user scenarios. Rounding out the Honor 9's spec list is a 5.15-inch 1920×1080 display, an 8-megapixel front camera, 4GB/6GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in storage, a microSD slot, dual SIM slots, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, and a 3,200mAh battery. On the software side, the Honor 9 is running Huawei's EMUI 5.1 user interface on top of Android Nougat. Also of note is the Honor 9's body, which includes a 3D glass back that Huawei touts as having 15 layers, as well as a sandblasted metal frame. The Honor 8 was one of our favorite smartphones of 2016, with Dima calling it a "fantastic bang-for-your-buck" smartphone. We'll have to wait to check out the Honor 9 before we get too excited about it, but given how good the Honor 8 was, we're definitely looking forward to getting the Honor 9 into our hands.
Also announced today is Huawei's Honor Band 3. This fitness tracker has a battery that'll last up to 30 days on a single charge, a 0.91-inch black and white PMOLED display, and support for Android and iOS. It's also water resistant up to 50 meters. Huawei will offer the Honor Band 3 in Dynamic Orange, Classic Navy Blue, and Carbon Black color options. Android Match
